Raymond Yau, PhD, CEng, FCIBSE, MIMechE, MASHRAE, LEEDTM AP, FHKIE, RPE, is
Arup Fellow and Director of Arup Hong Kong. He is a building services engineer and
building physicist who specializes in integrated design of sustainable and environmental responsive buildings.
He was one of the pioneers in the UK in mid eighties who adopted the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics and Dynamic Thermal Modelling techniques in built environment applications. He then pioneered the use of such advanced simulation techniques to Hong Kong in early nineties in complex indoor environment and lately developed advanced turbulence modeling for external air ventilation assessment for high rise and high density urban environment.
He was Arup’s project director responsible for leading several pivotal sustainable consulting studies for the HKSAR Government, which have had a strong influence on the development of sustainability in Hong Kong and put Arup in the lead on formulating the roadmap for the local sustainability agenda. These projects include drafting a Comprehensive Environmental Performance Assessment Scheme (CEPAS) for buildings in Hong Kong, similar to the BREEAM in the UK and LEEDTM in the USA, and establishing the life-cycle assessment and database model for building construction in Hong Kong. He is Core Co-investigator of HKSAR Government Study on Urban Climatic Map and Standard for Air Ventilation Assessment.
He led the China’s Hangzhou Xihu Tiandi Phase 2 Development to obtain the world’s first pre-certified LEED – Core & Shell green building label ever at the highest platinum level of performance. He is currently leading the sustainable development and energy supply strategies for the Shanghai Dongtan Eco-City Demonstrator project.
Many of his projects have won Green Building Awards or Sustainability Recognition such as MTR Disney Resort Line Sunny Bay Station, Hong Kong Public Housing on Microclimate Research and LCA/LCC Sustainable Tools for Buildings in Hong Kong.
He is currently Regional Vice-Chair on Technology Transfer of ASHRAE Region XIII.
Dr. Andy Davids is a Director and Professional Board member of Hyder Consulting, and is currently the Chief Engineer responsible for the structural design certification of the Burj Dubai, currently completing the structural works. Andy is the Chief Engineer of the ‘Hyder High-rise Design Studio’ which is now based in Dubai and is responsible for many of the high-rise projects undertaken by Hyder around the world. He also specializes in sustainable design of high rise projects. His ‘studio’ currently has 9 towers ranging from 60 to 160 levels, under various stages of design and construction for clients in the Middle East. Andy also holds a Chair in Architecture at the University of Sydney, and serves on several International Code Committees. He was recently appointed by the CTBUH as the ‘Leader in High Rise Construction in the United Arab Emirates’.

David Malott is a Senior Designer at KPF with 12 years of professional experience. Since joining Kohn Pedersen Fox in 1998, he has worked on a diverse range of building projects, with an emphasis on high-rise mixed-use projects in Hong Kong and China, adding his significant design and technical experience to each project team.
Mr. Malott has worked as a Senior Designer on some of the firm’s most high-profile projects including the 492-meter Shanghai World Financial Center, recently recognized by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat with the Best Tall Building Worldwide Award 2008. Mr. Malott also played a key role on the design of Roppongi Hills, a large mixed-use development in Tokyo.
Presently, he is leading the design team for the 588-meter Ping An International Finance Center in Shenzhen, China. With a floor area of over 460,000 square meters and 115 storys above grade, the PAIFC will be the world’s largest office building when completed in 2015. He is also leading the design team for Sun Hung Kai’s 490-meter International Commerce Center in Kowloon, Hong Kong, for which he was responsible for the detail design of the tower’s exterior wall and interior public spaces. Facing Victoria Harbor, the tower is situated surrounding the MTR’s Kowloon Station with direct connection to the city’s subway system, and to nearby Chep Lap Kok Airport. The ICC will include office and retail spaces, and will feature a 300-room Ritz Carlton Hotel and public observation deck on the 100th Floor. Upon completion in 2010, the ICC’s Ritz Carlton will be the tallest hotel in the world.
Mr. Malott is also the Senior Designer of the 170-meter-tall One Central tower, a mixed-use waterfront development along Nam Van Lake in Macau. Adjacent to the MGM and Wynn Casinos, the project comprises 2.6 million square feet of luxury condominiums and retail anchored by a flagship Mandarin Oriental Hotel to be completed in 2009. The slanted hotel tower leans out over the water, its rippled curtain wall evoking the movement of waves across the bow of a ship.
Additional projects for which he has provided design and management include the concept design for the Chongqing Shui-on Super Tower—a mixed-use development envisioned as the centerpiece of the Shui on Land master plan, and the X3-2 tower and Citic Ruibo towers in Shanghai’s Pudong—both presently in schematic design.
Prior to joining KPF, Mr. Malott apprenticed at Nikken Sekkei in Osaka, Japan, and was a senior design consultant to Hijjas Kasturi Associates and Veritas Architects, both in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Also of note, while at Hijjas Kasturi Mr. Malott led the winning design competition proposal for the master plan of the waterfront and civic spaces of Putrajaya, the new administrative capital of Malaysia.
